All Ireland Schools Squash Championships Galway Lawn Tennis Club on Friday April 11 2014

Thirty two teams from all four provinces entered this year’s All Ireland Schools Squash Championships so it was a busy day of squash with all of GLTC’s six squash courts in use throughout the day.

Munster had just two team at this year’s All Ireland Schools Finals, one in the Boys under 15 section and the other in the Boys under 17 section – both teams came from CBS Secondary School Thurles.

All Ireland Schools Finals – Boys under 15 Section

CBS beat Ballinrobe Community School 3/0, beat Rice College Westport 3/0 but lost 2/1 to St. Fintan’s Senior School Sutton.  This was a desperately close affair as St. Fintan’s won one of their matches 14/12 in the fifth!  As St. Fintan’s also won their ties against Ballinrobe Community School & Rice College St. Fintan’s took this year’s title with Thurles CBS finishing very worthy runners-up.  So heartbreak for Thurles CBS and joy for St. Fintan’s!  Well done to all in what was a very sporting contest.

The CBS Secondary School Thurles team was:

  1. Donnchadh Quirke
  2. Michael Murphy
  3. Colm Smith
  4. Dylan Grace
